Description
The horizontal water-meadow mill is the oldest, most rudimentary type of mill, consisting of a horizontal driving wheel, with blades or spoons (situated in a basement chamber inside the mill), with the vertical shaft to activate the lower grindstone and to transmit motion directly to the upper grindstone. The water is conveyed by means of a series of intercepting and bypass devices to a collection tank, which creates hydraulic power when the capacity of the torrent is too low to do so.
In the water-meadows, "Marcite", there are eight mills, which have been fully renovated thanks to the intervention of the Mountain Community of Valnerina.
